The Convenience of Online Lessons

Experience harp or piano lessons without the hassle of leaving your home.  The time spent driving could be spent at the harp or piano itself!   Plus, students will appreciate the efficiency and convenience of online lessons at their own harp or piano.

These lessons provide an alternative to traditional on-location music lessons, with a more streamlined delivery.  No need to worry about bad weather, traffic, commuting, save money on gas, coats, pets, no masks or unpacking sheet music. We are ready to go from the moment of connection.

Coaching

Coaching is for people who aren't looking for regular lessons but would like to learn on their own schedule, be able to pick my brains and get help and feedback on a specific subject. For example - you're preparing a concert program and would like to get my thoughts and suggestions on the music.

Whether you already have a teacher or haven't had one for a long time, getting a trusted second set of ears and eyes to give you feedback is always valuable.

Payment and Cancellation Policy:

Payment methods accepted: E-transfer for students in Canada and Online billing / Paypal for the rest of the world, Credit Card & Interac (in person). Receipts and the option to pay by credit card will be send by My Music Staff.

Part of booking a lesson is reserving that time slot. Cancellations are disruptive and to be avoided if at all possible, but I know sometimes things come up. If you do need to cancel a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible!  I charge full price for lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice (except in case of illness).

Payment for lessons cancelled with more than 24 hours notice will be rescheduled / made up.  If the lessons can't be made up it will be rolled over.  Similarly, if I have to cancel a lesson for any reason, that payment will be made up or carried over into next month.

Coaching Lessons can also be booked on

Cancellations:

While 24 hours is the cutoff before I start charging for a cancelled lesson, I prefer as much lead time as possible:

3 or more weeks notice - perfect, I can't ask for anything more!

1 week's notice - i.e. letting me know at your lesson that you can't make next week's lesson - acceptable, though not ideal.

Less than a week's notice - less than ideal and to be avoided if at all possible.

Less 24 hours notice (except in case of illness) - full charge for that lesson.

ONLINE LESSONS INFO

Picture
To ensure the musical progress of your child, and to ensure that you have the proper setup for enrolling in online piano lessons, please read the following information carefully.

  Online Music Lessons
  • Online piano lessons are a way for us to work together one-on-one, as teacher and student, from anywhere in the world, via video conferencing services such as Rock Out Loud Live,  Zoom, Skype, Facetime, and a variety of other platforms.
  • Students in Grades K-12 are welcome to enroll in online piano lessons.    If your child is younger than 10, parental assistance is required to help assist with equipment.

What equipment do I need?

You will need access to a piano / harp, reliable internet connection, and Zoom-compatible device.

Your Zoom device must have a camera and microphone. Recent model laptops are ideal, but iPads and iPhones also work well because of their great cameras, mics, and Wi-Fi chipsets.

Generally speaking, larger screens provide a more comfortable experience. If you go the tablet/smartphone route, you’ll need a tripod or a mount that allows you to point the camera in the direction of the piano keys or harp.

Online Lesson Tips

To maximize the quality of your experience with online piano lessons, you will want to be sure your setup is optimal. Follow these tips to ensure your setup is well optimized.

  • Position your camera to take on the perspective of someone sitting next to you.
  • The camera lens should be higher than the level of the keyboard / parallel to to the harp strings.
  • If using a wireless connection, try to place your router as close to the lesson area as possible.
  • Be sure your setup has adequate lighting. Most cameras do not function well in dimly lit rooms.
  • Make sure your device and Zoom client are fully updated before beginning of every lesson.
  • Allow yourself at least 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson to warmup and check for updates.
  • Be sure to plug your devices into wall outlets or ensure they are fully charged at the time of the lesson.
  • Use a dedicated microphone (such as the Blue Snowball) if your device has a low quality microphone.
  • Quality headphones can improve your experience significantly.

Additionally, I would encourage you to check out this blog post which goes into detail on how to set up for online piano lessons.

Performance Club
Gain confidence in your playing skill by preforming.  Performance club is a great opportunity for pupil to share a piece that they have been working on in a fun and relaxed atmosphere online via zoom or though another platform.  This is informal, low key & fun!   It is also a way to meet other people who are taking lessons.  Sessions are once a month.    Times will be added to the studio calendar on my music staff's portal.
